Another enjoyable winter season of Short Mat bowling is drawing to a close at Chesham Bowling Club. Roll up sessions have been well attended throughout the winter months, with skill levels greatly improving in the new discipline.
The snowfall in December disrupted both competition and league programmes, but, "where there is a will, there is a way", and the co- operation amongst everyone involved, recovered the timetable by mid January.
The re-arranged Christmas Drawn Pairs, with 18 entries, was eventually won by Jane Evans and Chris Fillery. The end of season Singles Championship, with 25 entries competing for the Melcross Cup, was keenly contested with extra ends needed on several matches to determine a winner. The early rounds brought semi-finals of Keith Patrick versus Jean McNab, and Chris Fillery versus Bill Faulkner, with the resulting final between Keith and Bill. Keith won the match, appropriately enough, with the last bowl, to conclude our in-house competitions. Congratulations Keith.
There were mixed fortunes in the league results. In the South Bucks Triples League both the "A" and "B" teams finished up at the bottom of the table, with the "A" team fairing slightly better than the "B" team, rightly so, as they had the better of the "B" team, taking maximum points on BOTH occasions they met!. However, in the Single Mat league the "B" team finished top in the Red league, and went on to play Wendover, winners of the Blue league, at Bellingdon. A good evening's bowling had Chesham "B" team winning 6 points to 2, and 27 shots to 20, thus making the "B" team, Single Mat League Champions.
The outdoor season is now upon us, so from the "Short Matters", may we wish you all a good summer's bowling.
