CBC Club Competition Rules [2025]
1. Competitions shall be played under the Laws of the Game adopted by the WB, Bowls England, unless otherwise stated. 2. Entry to competitions shall be by completion of the official entry form signed by the competitor and on payment of the official entry fee, excluding the Maisie Sawyer triples. 3. Members joining the Club after the entry closing date of that Competition are not eligible to play in that competition, other than as a substitute. 4. The closing date of each round must be adhered to. No extensions will be given. 5. The first named player, pair, triple, rink (the Challenger) shall have the responsibility for the playing of each tie and offer the Opponent(s) three dates for the playing of the tie within five days of the commencement of the round (or earlier). The three dates cannot be consecutive, nor all in the same week. A week starts on a Monday and ends on a Sunday. No Challenger shall offer the last day of the round, Sunday, Bank Holiday, days when County Competitions or League matches are to be played but the tie may be played on these days by mutual consent. No player or team shall be asked to play two rounds of the same competition within one round of the time frame, unless by mutual agreement. Failure to do by the Middle Date of the round shall result in the Opponent taking the rights and duties of the Challenger. The latest date for offering dates and times is 5 days after the Middle Date. (Note the original Challenger is still responsible for providing a Marker if one is required). Holidays are no excuse for not challenging or for non-acceptance of a date. County Tours are classed as holidays. Once challenged the Opponent has two days to respond or forfeit the tie. Where the Challenger has been unable to contact an Opponent (or vice versa, if applicable) by the times stipulated above, he/she must immediately inform the Competitions Secretary. In the event of a tie not being played by the End Date of the round and the Competitions Secretary not having been advised of any difficulty in arranging the tie, both the Challenger and his Opponent shall be eliminated from the competition and the competitor who would have played the winner in the next round shall have a bye in that round. If the tie is not played for any other reason the Competitions Secretary shall have absolute discretion to decide who shall progress to the next round or that both competitors shall be eliminated. The decision of the Competition Secretary is FINAL. 6. The Challenger shall arrange a marker for singles competitions; failure to do so will lead to disqualification of the Challenger. The marker must be an ordinary member of the Club, or a person with bowling experience. 7. Any dispute between the Challenger and the Opponent shall immediately be referred to the Competition Secretary. The decision of the Competition Secretary is FINAL. 8. In pairs, triples and rink competitions, one substitute may be used who shall not already have entered that competition. In the drawn mixed pairs, the substitute to be taken in sequence from the substitutes list provided. In the drawn Sparks Cup (ladies’ pairs) as the leads and skips are drawn from different bags, any substitution must reflect a similar bowling ability as the original player i.e. lead for lead, skip for skip. The Competition Secretary must be informed. 9. Handicap competition: Neems Silver Fern Cup winners will have a maximum of 5, the runners up a maximum of 4. 10. It will be appreciated if ties are arranged as soon as possible, to avoid congestion of rink space close to the closing date of each round.
