Chesham Ladies are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, the Ladies section of the club being founded in 1965. For the first major event of the year ladies captain Jackie Bateman welcomed Friends of English Bowling, lead by chair Angela Harris. "The Friends" is the biggest supporter of outdoor bowls in England. Funds raised are used to assist youth development and support the National Championships. For the scores Chesham lost 109---117, top rink being Brenda Waterman, Fay Holmes, Dave Sills, Shirley Gardiner 25 -13.
In other games this week Chesham had a winning run. The game at home to Thame was won 117 - 110, top rink Brenda Waterman, Kitty Lofty, Colin Parsons, and captain Trevor Bateman 25 - 14. Away at Tring Chesham won 111 - 73, top rink Margaret Shepherd, Martin Blackman, Mike Bailey, Trevor Bateman 27---7. Chesham's Rod Harvey is this year's president of the Buckinghamshire BA, and this week brought a team from all over the county to play Chesham. Chesham had a good win 145 - 112, with top rink Harry Denham, Chris Fillery, Trevor Bateman, Keith Patrick 32 - 12. Chesham Ladies also had a win at Iver Heath, 57 - 34, top rink Margret Denham, Mo Bailey, Chris Smethurst 24 - 8. In the second round of the Bucks Cup, Chesham played Chess Vale. Honours were even in the games, Chesham won at home, and Chess Vale away, but Nathan Harvey, Frank McCartney and Mick Skerry's rink won 27 - 8 ensuring an overall win 75 - 65 so that the shot points went to Chesham to give them an 10 - 4 win, and an early lead in their division.
