Short Mat Season comes to a close
Chesham Bowling Club's short mat season is coming to a close, and the last competition to be decided was the club championship singles, played for the Melcross Cup. This was won by Malcolm Warwick winning against Bill Faulkner. Malcolm was presented with the cup by Helen Fillery, this year's ladies captain.
In the Short Mat Leagues Chesham B won their division of the Single Mat League, but lost the playoff final against Bellingdon. Bellingdon went ahead winning the Singles and Pairs matches, and although Chesham won the triples the total shot difference was not enough to deprive Bellingdon of a well deserved victory.
Thoughts now turn to the outdoor season with Chesham's green opening on Wednesday this week, and the first matches at the weekend. An Open Morning for prospective new bowlers is being held on Sunday 28th April from 10am until 1pm to provide an introduction to the Game and Club. No previous experience is necessary as Coaches and Members will be on hand to show how to hold and deliver a bowl before you have a go. Bowls will be provided so all you need is casual dress and a pair of soft soled shoes (e.g. trainers) if you have them. If not we have some shoes available. Our Coaches will then be able to arrange sessions for more formal tuition. Please turn up even if it rains as we can go back to using the Short Mat facilities in the Clubhouse!
