Chesham win in three competitions against Marlow
It was a week where Chesham played Marlow three times in different competitions and came out top on each one.
On Tuesday in the Chiltern & Thames Mixed League, Chesham won a rain affected match by two triples to one, and overall by 44 – 27, with top rink of Pam Hooper, David Coles and Mick Skerry 25 – 4.
Following up on Thursday, the Men played in the Top Club Competition, winning in three of the five matches. Chesham were behind at the halfway stage, but a strong finish by the pairs and triples won the match. Scores were two wood, Roy Rodgers 11 – 15, singles Chris Harvey 14 – 21, pairs Frank McCartney and Gerry Elliott 21 – 18, triples Geoff Denham, David Coles and Keith Patrick 20 – 13, and fours Nathan Harvey, Howard Cave, Ray Keen and Mick Skerry 26 – 16. Chesham go on to play either Amersham or High Wycombe away.
Then on Sunday in the first leg of the annual Challenge Cup played between the two sides, Chesham also won by 127 – 118 shots, with a top rink of Kitty Lofty, John Henderson, Sylvia Warrington and captain Peter Horton (23 - 13)
The London and Southern Counties Shield competition started this week with Chesham playing against St Neots. In a very close match Chesham won by two shots overall. The away rinks scores were Geoff Denham, Tony Strudwick, Diet Townend and Mick Skerry 28 – 18, Howard Cave, Mike Bailey, Roger Elliston, Gerry Elliott 19 – 19 and at home Brian Wright, Trevor Bateman, John Holland, Ray Keen 26 -18, Colin Parsons, David Staples, Chris Fillery, Roy Rodgers 12 – 28.
On Saturday in a friendly against Aston Clinton, Chesham won by 109 – 72, with a top rink of Mo Bailey, Colin Parsons, Helen Fillery and Terri Keen (35 – 8)
A ladies triples match away at Iver Heath, Chesham lost 49 – 54, but did have a top rink of Gill Henderson, Mo Bailey and Terri Keen 21 – 18.
