Chesham members before the most keenly contested match of the season - Ladies v Gents
The regional rounds of the Ladies county competitions have been completed, and Chesham have two fours and a triple team through to the quarter final stage.
The fours teams of Terri Keen, Fay Holmes, Lin Wright, Pat Rodgers won 20 -13 against Broadway, and Fay Green, Barbara Strudwick, Sue Faulks, Avril Harland won 17 -16 against High Wycombe. Avril Harland, with Pat Rodgers and Sue Faulks won against Marlow 27 – 6 to secure a place in the triples. The fours quarter and semi finals will be played at Princes Risborough on 2nd June, and the corresponding day for the triples will be at Chesham on Saturday 8th June.
The National Club Mixed Over 60's double rink competition got under way this week, with both Chesham teams in action. Chesham A had a convincing win against Marlow, Helen Fillery, Barbara Strudwick, Geoff Denham, Roy Rodgers won 23 – 6, and Colin Parsons, Sylvia Warrington, June Holland and John Holland won 18 – 5. This was followed up by Chesham B winning at Gerrards Cross. Brian Wright, Sue Faulks, Avril Harland and Keith Patrick won 21 – 18, and Howard Cave, Lin Wright, Pat Rodgers and Mick Skerry won 31 – 13. The two Chesham teams meet each other in the next round.
In the Bucks Cup Chesham won against Bassetsbury Manor, winning three of the four triples and now lie second in the division behind Princes Risborough.
In the week's friendlies, Chesham won against Chalfont St Giles, by 96 – 64. Top triple being Jim Shephard, Margaret Denham and Mike Bailey 22 – 7. However, Chesham lost on Saturday at Iver Heath 102 - 131, top rink being Malcolm Warwick, Alan Redwood, Trevor Bateman and David Coles (20 – 19) and on Sunday lost at home in a close match to Denham by 92 – 97. Top Chesham rink was David Hobbs, John Burgin, Sylvia Warrington and Pat Rodgers 24 – 18.
Finally, one of the most keenly contested matches of the year on Bank Holiday Monday, the annual Ladies v Gentlemen. The Gents retained the trophy being winners on four of the six rinks. Top rink for the ladies was Babs Williams, Toni Nightingale, Jenny Ware and Dot Burgin (27 – 20) and for the men Colin Parsons, John Burgin, Roger Lofty and captain Peter Horton (27 – 4).
