Courtney selected for Bowls England Academy
Young Chesham bowler, Courtney Harvey has been selected to be part of the inaugural Bowls England Development Initiative Academy with the aim of supporting the development of young bowlers recognised with potential for future international recognition. Courtney (14), from the Misbourne School, is one of only eight girls selected for the programme from the whole of England. She confirmed her potential by beating a current England player in the latest round of the Champion of Champions competition.
In the Top Club competition, Chesham ladies had a resounding win over Princes Risborough on all four rinks. In the Singles, June Holland won 21 -13, Pairs Fay Green and Avril Harland won 18 -12, Triple Courtney Harvey, Pat Rodgers and Sue Springell won 34 - 5, and Fours Jean McNab, Sue Faulks, Terri Keen and Lin Wright won 19 - 18. The team go on to play Burnham in the next round.
In the Men's National Double Fours competition, Chesham C team won against Aston Clinton 42 - 38, Mike Bailey, David Sills, Malcolm Warwick and Tony Holt won 16 - 15, and Trevor Bateman, Andy Roker, Chris Fillery and John Holland won 26 - 23. Their opponents in the next round are Gerrards Cross who won convincingly against Chesham A team this week.
In the Chiltern & Thames League, Chesham are on course for a quarter final place after a win over Chalfont St Giles. Honours were even across the rinks, but the high scoring rink of Chris Fillery, Avril Harland and Roy Rodgers 29 - 13 meant that Chesham won overall.
Similarly in the Bucks Cup, Chesham are still top of the regional league after winning on all four rinks home and away against Chess Vale.
In the match against Herts for the Tosh Clarke Cup, Chesham take a two shot advantage into the second leg winning 128 - 126. Top rink was Brian Cox, George Perry, Alan Turner, Daphne Halsey 31-9. In another friendly against Flackwell Heath, Chesham won by 86 - 69, with top rink Trisha Parsons, John Redwood, Jean McNab and Shirley Gardiner 25 - 12.
