A cold but very sunny start to the day with promise of Spring in the air. Birds are tweeting and the plants are budding. Hoorah
Tony will soon start the green preparation and would appreciate your help, cutting or general upkeep. He will work with you and show you the ropes.
Covid has stopped us from doing anything at the club but with dropping numbers, jabs and slight easing we are planning and hoping for a good season albeit may be a bit slow out of the starting gate.
We had a good quiz night on Sat 20th attended by about 20. Another is planned for the 6th March and I will send out the usual email with details next week, come and give it a try and see and chat a bit with friends.
Next month I will be emailing membership renewal and competition sheets. You can fill these out on line and email them back to me. If anyone cannot do this, they can print them and post to me in the normal way. If you cannot print, let me know and I will post them to you. We are doing it this way to reduce contact for Covid and also to save money, which I am sure you appreciate is vital at the moment. There will probably be hiccups but don’t let that stop you from renewing, Howard and I are here to help if needed.
My hardest task in this months letter is a piece on Ray Keen.
Ray lost his battle with Cancer on Monday, the day after his 76th Birthday with his family around his bed. Our thoughts are with them all.
Ray and Terri were members of Chesham for 10 years, leaving in 2017. Whist here Ray was always ready, as usual, to offer support for games and social events, especially Geoff’s wine nights. He was always professional in his approach to whatever he did, organizing or just being involved, but you always knew he was around when his laugh rang out across the room or green.
Having known Ray for 20 odd years and shared many moments of hilarity and glasses of the red grape juice, I will, like many others, miss his humour and friendship. Rest in Peace. MATE!
Terri tells me she has had well over a hundred cards from the many friends and associations Ray was involved with, Bowls, Umpires, Wine Club, Snooker, Crib and dominoes etc. and contacts from around the world.
Ray’s funeral is on the 17th March at 3.15 and will be streamed. Watch out for updates.
Ray requested a memorial get together should be held at Chesham and we will be happy to host it later in the summer.
