The season ended with the annual Captains v President match. This year captains Trevor and Jackie Bateman rounded off a good year with a win 132 - 118, over president Norman Green's team, Top captain's rink was Delphine Brown, Gavin Holmes, Shirley Gardiner and Brian Wright.
Captain Trevor Bateman awarded his Bowler of the Year trophy to David Hobbs for his consistent bowling, unstinting help to the captain and the work he does quietly in the garden. Whilst Jackie Bateman awarded her trophies to Pauline Squire as the most improved bowler and Helen Fillery as the person who supported the captain with the most help during the year. The Club Finals will be played this weekend 19th and 20th September. There will be matches morning and afternoon on both days and refreshments will be available. Please support the finalists.
The programme is attached. ![]() The annual 3-2-1 competition, where teams of 3 play triples, pairs and singles throughout day was held on Saturday. Jean Queripel presented the cup, which was given in memory of her husband John who introduced the competition to the club some 20 years ago, to the winning team of Donna Harvey, Howard Cave and Peter Horton. Shirley Gardiner, Nathan and Chris Harvey were second and Dave Francis, Margaret and Geoff Denham third. Chesham had a clean sweep of trophies in the finals of the Watford and District Veterans Bowling Association played at Watford Bowls Club in Cassiobury Park. The association President Cyril Payne presenting winning trophies to Chesham teams in all four finals.
First up was Chris Fillery who won the Singles against Alan Dickson of Bushey, 21 - 14. Then in an all Chesham Fours final, Alan Cohn, David Staples, Geoff Denham and Roy Rodgers came from behind to win against Howard Cave, Peter Horton, Ray Keen and Keith Patrick 18 - 16. In the afternoon, the Pairs team of Howard Cave and John Holland won 24 - 13 against Bushey, and to complete the win, Alan Cohn, David Staples and Roy Rodgers were again in action winning the Triples against Herts 18 - 12. |
