NEWSLETTER June 2021
HOORAY SOMEBODY TURNED ON THE SUN
The green is improving and we will soon be bowling both ways. All credit to Tony and the team for their diligence and hard work. We must also compliment Trevor and Jackie for the flower beds, given a little time they are going to look spectacular. The guys and girl working on painting etc have made the club look superb. Well done everybody.
The bank holiday saw our open weekend, and thanks again to the few in promoting and attending it was a great success. We gained at least 6 new applications with a total of 30 visiting. I will be chasing up on the others in the next week or two and have high hopes for a few more.
Work parties are still coming in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for cleaning, painting etc. and we are always pleased to see new recruits. Still some jobs to do for both ladies and gents, but we are getting there. Come and help YOUR club out.
The date for clearing items from the changing rooms has passed and by the end of the month all items left will be cleared!
I need a few volunteers for the Pioneers on a Wednesday mornings. As you know these are partially sighted bowlers and need help with length and direction. You get to use a walkie talkie and get a cup of tea half time. They are always very appreciative of our assistance and if we could get half a dozen willing hands, the duties would be light, probably only once a fortnight. Give me a call to help out.
Tony needs a couple of helpers for light grass trimming around the perimeter of the green. A couple of hours twice a month to keep the edges tidy.
You will have seen Bowls England guidelines and we are re-opening the clubhouse as of the 18th May. Watch out for social events to follow ASAP.
The booking system Howard has in place now shows all fixture games and is the only way to book a rink for comps and, for the moments roll ups, although hopefully soon you will not need to book roll ups. If you are having a problem booking ring me or Howard and we will book it for you.
Lastly, apologies for the lateness of this newsletter, with the comps etc etc it has all been a bit hectic.
I know you had some of these items in the last newsletter but they bear repeating
You will have received my email about Lawrie Smethurst’s death. A very sad event for those that knew him.
John
Keep well and safe.
