NEWSLETTER May 2021
As we look forward into summer, it still feels like winter, that cold chill in the breeze making us forget the warm days a couple of weeks ago, still at least it’s still sunny! Sometimes.
The green is improving but it seems to be taking forever. The side that we can bowl on is playing very well and is being used by quite a few stalwarts.
We had our first game against Bovingdon last weekend which we won on all 3 rinks, the pens going to Geoff Denham, John Bleakley, Jackie Bateman and Tricia Parsons for a 10 shot win. Well done to them.
The Cameron Cup (Aussie pairs) was full and they were looking forward to a great Monday afternoon, however with a bad weather forecast it was decided to postpone. Watch out for new date!
You will notice that we have moved the equipment shed down a couple of doors, where you get your mat and jack etc. This is because we are planning to refurbish of the old visitor changing room to make it male and female visitor changing, hopefully with it’s own toilet. Watch this space!!
Work parties are still coming in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for cleaning, painting etc. and we are always pleased to see new recruits. Still plenty to do for both ladies and gents. Come and help YOUR club out.
Watch out for the promotional event in the town on the 22nd and open weekend on the 29th, 30th and 31st. We will need help on those mornings so put it in your diaries. Planning very informal sessions, you don’t need to be a coach to help out, just willing to talk to people and we do need new members. Tea or coffee with a bacon butty to boot.
The date for clearing items from the changing rooms has passed and by the end of the month all items left will be cleared!
The competitions are out so look on the website for your opponents. Just the Neems and Triples to finish, but will be out soon. I will print off the sheets and put them in the clubhouse, move your name as usual if you win.
I need a few volunteers for the Pioneers on a Wednesday mornings. As you know these are partially sighted bowlers and need help with length and direction. You get to use a walkie talkie and get a cup of tea half time. They are always very appreciative of our assistance and if we could get half a dozen willing hands, the duties would be light, probably only once a fortnight. Give me a call to help out.
Tony needs a couple of helpers for light grass trimming around the perimeter of the green. A couple of hours twice a month to keep the edges tidy.
You will have seen Bowls England guidelines and we are re-opening the clubhouse as of the 18th May. Watch out for social events to follow ASAP.
The booking system Howard has in place now shows all fixture games and is the only way to book a rink for comps and, for the moments roll ups, although hopefully soon you will not need to book roll ups. If you are having a problem booking ring me or Howard and we will book it for you.
Lastly, apologies for the lateness of this newsletter, with the comps etc etc it has all been a bit hectic.
John
Keep well and safe.
