The next social event is the much-anticipated race night on Saturday 23rd April. For those of you that don’t know what to expect Ray has built 6 wooden race horses and there will be a race track assembled in the club house. The horses are wound along the track by the jockey that is selected by the owner of the race horse. All attendees have the potential to be selected by a horse owner as their jockey for the races. Will be a very fun night and we may have to limit numbers based on the club's capacity so will take bookings based on a first come basis.
The format of the evening will be 6 races and a final 7th race with the winning 6 owners/jockeys. You will be able to bet on each race and on the night and cheer your chosen horse on.
**** ALL BETS ON THE NIGHT (50p per bet) MUST BE CASH ONLY ****
You can all buy a horse in advance for any of the races and you are free to buy as many as you wish. We will be putting a notice on the board for you to select your horse or you can choose on the night. The cost is £5 per horse and you then select your jockey on the night and if you win you will receive a bottle of good Wine or Prosecco. Payments for horses will be taken on the night.
The races are as follows (the ages is for the jockeys chosen by the horse owners)
Race 1 – Open Race – open to jockeys of all ages
Race 2 – Mens over 70s race – open to male jockeys over 70
Race 3 – Ladies over 50s race – open to female jockeys over 50
Race 4 – Mens Open race – open to all male jockeys
Race 5 – Under 50s race – open to any jockey under 50
Race 6 – Ladies open – open to any female jockey
Race 7 – Finals race (any duplicate jockey can be substituted for same category jockey)
We will also be providing dinner before the racing starts and will be able to answer any questions and make sure all horses have been bought prior to the running of the races. Dinner will be served at 1900hrs so please aim to be at the club for 1830.
We are looking to provide Cottage Pie and Baked Beans or Veg Cottage Pie and Baked Beans with Ice cream dessert.
The cost for the evening is £10 per person so please email Spencer [email protected] if you would like to attend or write your name on the list in the club.
We are also looking for 6 people to sponsor the races and you get to name the race, cost is £10 per race and please also email if you wish to sponsor a race.
